Uses too much CPU/Memory, Too few features, December 22, 2011 This review is from: McAfee Protection for MAC 1 User 2012 [Old Version] (CD-ROM) McAfee is one of the best security softwares available for PC, at least in my opinion. When I got McAfee for Mac, I was excited. But that didn't last long. During installation process, CPU levels on my MBP Early 2011 High-End 15 inch was through the roof, at 99%! I had to turn on all the fans to get my MBP to cool.
The software isn't the PC version. There are only a few features, Real-Time Scan, Spyware Scan, Application Protection, and Desktop Firewall. No other features, like Parental Controls that are in the PC version. If you want parental controls, you need to get Family Protection for Mac... But Macs have built in parental controls, so that doesn't really matter.
Real-Time Scan is a REAL problem. I had three tabs open in Safari, iTunes open, and two Pages documents, and "Real-Time Scan" was using over 1 GIGABYTE of my memory. That's 50% if you have one of the 2 GB Macs. Plus, CPU was over 10%. Needless to say, I turned off Real-Time Scan and CPU levels went... Read more

Forces fans on computer to run all the time, January 12, 2012 This review is from: McAfee Protection for MAC 1 User 2012 [Old Version] (CD-ROM) I agree exactly with the above review. As soon as I downloaded the software with the key provided to my 2008 MacBook (which had no issues prior to loading), my fans started running and would not stop; even after making sure that all programs were closed. I liked the simplicity of the interface but can't deal with the fans running due to the program using up massive amounts of the CPU, causing it to heat up quickly. I would not recommend this product for any Mac users.

McAfee Security for the Mac-2012, May 17, 2012 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: McAfee Protection for MAC 1 User 2012 [Old Version] (CD-ROM) This was installed very easily and seems to be protecting my Mac Pro from malware and other things that go bump in the night.
We got a malware on the Mac about 2 months ago and my email was shutdown because it started sending messages to all my friends and business clients. We checked out the HDs by scanning them and found one bad apple.
I am only giving 4 out of 5 stars because I don't know whether it is working or not since that was our first in 20 years of using a Mac. I guess I should really give it 5 stars but I think I will wait until it tells me it found and cleaned out another malware.
